Forest, Fallow and Fast Farming by Alison Wilson

In the words of Sir David Attenborough “cherish the natural world, because you’re a part of it and you depend on it”.  Whilst the slogan ‘save the planet’ comes to mind however in my own words this is true “the planet is important for our survival, without us the planet will continue, and we are not vital to this earth”.

Within this work I wasn’t necessarily thinking about climate change however it seems there are more storms, flash flooding locally and extreme weather globally than ever before.  I agree with Jane Goodall if we think globally about climate change it is difficult to deal with, and overwhelming. She urges us to think and act locally as all those small actions make a difference globally.

These images concentrate on farming and food production and its impact in the natural world. Our natural world encompasses us, animals and the environment. We have a big investment in it, like the saying goes ‘your health is your wealth’. However there is a shift in the natural worlds balance, and it’s not too late to do something about it.  I am not sure if technology can provide all the solutions, and our love of technology and convenience has created a lot of the problems. We are all complicit and not necessarily powerless as the choices we make day to day could change the future of the natural world. We all love nature in some form or another, and many people making small changes is powerful.

I have made some promises to myself in order to help shift the balance or at least to do something positive. I intend to research the products I buy to make an informed choice about the food and clothes I purchase to make less of impact on the environment and a positive effect on my health.

I am not sure if I can afford all the choices I would like to make however it may be that we can’t afford not to.
